Inside the TikTok documents: Stripping teens and boosting 'attractive' people

Children, as young as 15, were stripping on TikToks live feature, charged by adults who were paying for it. TikTok discovered there was a very high number of children receiving "gifts" and "coins" for stripping on live, which is real money in the form of digital currency in the form of plush toys or a flower. One of the other serious issues is that users of TikTok can be "addicted" in under 35 minutes, or 260 videos. It may seem like a lot of videos, but most videos are seconds long. Another issue brought to light is TikToks tendency to prioritize beautiful people. TikTok’s main video feed saw “a high volume of … not attractive subjects” in everyone's screens. TikTok's documents showed it went to so far as to tweak its algorithm to reduce visibility of people deemed not very attractive and “took active steps to promote a narrow beauty norm even though it could negatively impact their Young Users,” Tiktok has screen time limits in place to reduce the time spent on TikTok, but this has seen no improvement or impact on kids usage. It is common kids spend about 40 minutes to two hours per day. People work inside the TikTok Inc. building in Culver City, Calif., on March 11.

This is a real problem and has been talked about for years. Tiktok is a very addicting app and has shown have very shady things. To have kids stripping should be a red flag to finally take down the app. These "gifts" and "coins" is real money, and we should not have real money being in the app. honestly 260 videos is not a lot to be addicted, many people I know are very addicted to the app, and spend most of their free time on it. Personally, I have tried many times to delete the app, but I always find myself coming back to it, it's very hard. It does set a very bad image to younger kids when they always see one type of beauty standard and take it upon themselves to look a certain way. It's very harmful, growing up I dressed the way I wanted to, but the second I download TikTok I was taught otherwise, to not be myself. I have tried these screen time limits but all you can do is click it away, it does virtually nothing. In conclusion, TikTok is very harmful to the community, and should not be an app used this commonly.
